Celebrate National Case Management Week 2020

Case managers already have a complex job helping and advocating for clients as they navigate the ever-evolving health care system. However, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it even more challenges and complexities in health care delivery, making case managers needed now more than ever. And throughout the pandemic and beyond, case managers have heeded the call and been there for their clients.

In honor of the tremendous work of the more than 48,000 Board-Certified Case Managers (CCMs) across the country, the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC) is gearing up to show support for case managers for this year’s National Case Management Week 2020 (NCMW2020).

NCMW2020 runs from October 11 through 17 and brings attention to the day-to-day contributions and commitments of case managers. CCMC asks that you showcase your pride this year with these ideas:

Engage Virtually with Events

While large in-person gatherings may not be possible, virtual events bring people together in an innovative setting. Popular services like Zoom and Google Meet allow for face-to-face interaction, breakout discussion groups, instant-message-style group or individual chats, and seamless presentation of graphics and video.

Consider hosting a trivia event or game night, or a virtual luncheon to recognize case managers for their diligent and valued work. You may also consider hosting daily sessions with staff members sharing memorable stories or engaging other staff in the celebration.

Virtual events also make it possible to extend your celebration for the entire week. Host a one-hour event every day for the week, culminating with a virtual recognition luncheon. Virtual events make it possible to celebrate all week or even the entire month!

Making a Buzz on Social Media

With so many people engaging personally and professionally on social media, platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn are the perfect channels to showcase your NCMW2020 celebration. Use s#NCMW2020 to have case managers show off their pride on all posts that involve  case management week activities.

Want to up your social media game significantly? Launch a social media photo contest for case managers to show off their case manager pride. Photos might be of teams, coworkers, in the office or at home—though be sure to advise participants to follow employer’s photo posting guidelines. Offer a prize or incentive, and encourage them to post with #NCMW2020 to follow the activities across social media.

The Commission has made available a Facebook frame allowing case managers to easily display their pride on their profile picture across social media (add link or directions here).

Celebrate Accomplishments

Create a celebration board (in-person or virtually) recognizing all case managers on staff and highlighting individual or team accomplishments. The celebration board might also describe what a case manager does to educate other staff and clients, or feature case managers with a photo and brief bio about them.

While this year’s NCMW2020 will look a little different with fewer in-person gatherings, there are many ways to engage and celebrate our hardworking case managers. For example, the Commission is releasing the first installment of our CMLearning Network 2020 webinar series with free CE through October. The webinar, “Seven Ways to Build Resilience--As a Person, As a Case Manager” with Dr. Chantrise Sims Holliman, will inspire participants to find strength, hope and resiliency within themselves.

In recognition of NCMW2020, The Commission has also extended the December 2020 exam application window through October 19 to help case managers get certified.  Furthermore, to help case managers stay certified, the Commission is extending the deadline to earn CE for November 30, 2020 renewals to December 31, 2020, with a renewal application deadline of January 15, 2021, and is offering other special CE offerings through the CMLearning Network®. Look for other special announcements, contests and activities throughout the week on social media and in your email that you can use to showcase case managers in your organization.
